Our student An To (from Hanoi) created this art work.
Also known as the Full Moon Festival or the Children’s Festival, the Mid-Autumn Festival is one of the biggest celebrations in Vietnam.
This festival has long been observed by many agricultural societies around Asia, as it takes place after the rice harvest. Farmers would gather to relax and enjoy the new rice. In Vietnam, this event is eagerly awaited by children, who are the focus of the festivities.
On the day of the festival families gather to gaze upon the full moon. Kids are presented with brightly colored lanterns and funny masks, such as clown masks, lion masks, and prince or princess masks. The kids perform processions, dances and songs to celebrate. Lion dancers stage noisy and exciting shows and people sing folk songs.
In Hanoi, Phung Hung Street is packed with families in the days leading up to the Mid-Autumn Festival. Everyone comes here to buy lanterns and small toys.
